This site was born from an irritation you probably know well: watching information travel through our own conversations when thirty seconds of checking would have stopped it. Not out of stupidity. Nobody ever taught us the moves.
So we gathered them. Ten reflexes, borrowed from the best of media literacy, and a training room full of situations that are fictional yet ring painfully true. No moral lessons, no list of “good” and “bad” outlets: a method, yours to keep.
Everything is free, without an account, without advertising, in seven languages, and will stay that way. If this site makes you a little harder to fool, it has done its job.
The Before You Believe It team
The project
“Before You Believe It” starts from something everyone can observe in their own phone: we share faster than we verify, because nobody ever taught us the basic moves. This site teaches them, ten reflexes and hundreds of training cases, for free and in seven languages, because rumours don't stop at borders.
The organisation
The site is published by ODERSA (in full, “Organisation pour le Développement de l'Éducation, des Ressources et des Savoirs Accessibles”), a French non-profit association (loi 1901). Its mission: making education accessible to everyone, free of charge and with no strings attached; academic, professional, cultural and civic. Critical thinking is one of its pillars, and this site is one tool for it, alongside other digital and in-person actions.
The method
The 10 reflexes build on public media-literacy frameworks (detailed in the credits). The training cases are fictional, realistic, reviewed, and published with their data under an open licence. When we get something wrong, people write to us, we check, we fix: the correction log is public.
